3 Tips to Navigating a Job Search Today

The pandemic has been devastating for women when it comes to employment. The Cut reported, "women have lost 5.4 million jobs since the pandemic began, accounting for more than half of all losses in the U.S. The damage to women's employment has been catastrophic, particularly for women of color."

And if you lost your job in March and have yet to find one, you will probably experience job search fatigue.

Looking for a job can be challenging and even more so, some industries have limited roles and opportunities while others do not have the revenue to hire new employees.

One way to help with the job search today can be through talent agencies. Recruiters can help relieve the stress of finding the right roles for you and bring in new leads. Karen Williams, the founder of MinTech Agency took time to share with me some of her advice for navigating the job search in today's climate for Business Insider. Here are a few of her tips:

  1. Narrow your search to 10 companies and targeting your ideal positions instead of spending time applying to hundreds of jobs.

  2. Ensure your resume matches your LinkedIn profile. She advised that both items match the correct jobs, companies, titles, and lengths of service.

  3. Show personality and tell a story with your job duties. "Tell us what you did and how you were a benefit to the team, not just the duties from the job description. I want to feel like I just interviewed you when I finish reviewing your Linkedin profile."

Here are 3 other talent agencies or recruitment initiatives founded by Black women that you should consider.

Karen will be sponsoring 5 of you to attend next Friday's Making Lemonade masterclass. See below for how you can win one of the five tickets.
